One of the perks of moving to New York for the first time is finding out how easy it is to run into famous people in the wild. What nobody tells you is that most of these celeb sightings are often under-whelming or straight-up sad. I once watched Cuba Gooding Jr. sit alone in a West Village cafe during the middle of the day and order four entrees for himself. Liev Schreiber nearly ran me over one time while riding his bike on the sidewalk. And for the longest stretch, Aziz Ansari was the most famous person I’d ever interacted with after he tipped me $20 for serving him pie at the bakery where I worked, though that’s not something we brag about these days.

It seems like everyone has a Jake Gyllenhaal story to share, but have they, like Kaitlyn Tiffany, been in the same room as him multiple times (three, to be exact)??? Tiffany, who writes about tech at The Atlantic, spent an entire year of her life writing a weekly newsletter dedicated entirely to Jake Gyllenhaal fandom. If she can’t get his attention, then who will?
