Are We Ready For the Snow In November

Snow pours down once again,

So bright, pure, white and light.

But are we ready for the winter to transform us with its great ice and wind,

Forcing us to draw our warmth and energy inward for renewal?

Just as we are to be extra weary if the Sun shines too warmly in February,

Or if the skys clear too soon in late April before showers have soaked grounds through,

Or if Autumn’s crisp breath sneaks upon us too soon in September’s early days,

We must be watchful if winter’s white spills on too suddenly too soon.

No scattering snow will stick long enough to freeze over the soil,

If warm days come to melt it all away.

Snowfalls scaling seven times over only partially refill basins dried by drought,

And any rivers or lakes freezing at high crest risk flooding over when upcoming warm seasons melt away the snow and ice.

But one blessing winter offers,

In its pastel white, cold, breezy, and sublime frost,

Is a clear glimpse of the Universe’s dance,

Disorder dancing to order, and order back to disorder, striving for transcendent balance.

We may be unprepared for the cold winds, ice, and flurries of snow,

And warm days may fool even the most cunning of us into thinking it was all a show.

But before we are overcome by Nature’s whimsical trickery,

We still sit in quiet expectation for authentic winter to come again soon with all its renewal, with innumerable seasons in innumerable forms to follow.
