2017 has been, let’s say, interesting. There has been an obvious (public) increase of hate speech, hate crimes, hate groups, and a plethora of other racist activity perpetrated by European Americans. Portland, Oregon has been no exception. In fact, Portland and the rest of the Pacific Northwest has always been a white utopia with thriving white supremacy gangs and white nationalist organizations including: Aryan Nation, National Socialist Movement, White Revolution, KKK, Northwest Front, Neo-Nazi Codes, Vinlanders Club, and European Kindred to name a few. Gangs such as these has been producers of people like Jeremy Christian. Christian was a loose cannon; who you should fear more, however, are the white supremacist that are the lawyers you call, the police that patrol the streets, and the people living next door.

PATHOLOGY OF A WHITE SUPREMACIST

Christian’s double murder produced a major local scare; but Christian is not new to a life of crime or hate. Rather, if anyone was paying attention, there were clear red flags:

  • 2002: Christian robs a store;pulls out a gun on police; given 7 years prison
  • 2010: Christian is charged with felon in possession of firearm
  • 2013: Christian is arrest three times for parole violations
  • 2016: Christian post on Facebook about killing the US Attorney General (along with an array of other racist/homicidal posts)
  • 2017: Christian implicated in stabbing in downtown Portland
  • 2017: Christian accused of throwing a bottle at a Black woman on the bus
  • 2017: The very next day Christian stabs three people, killing two of them

ONE OF MANY

Make no mistake, Jeremy Christian was not some “troubled kid” turned murderer like the American media likes to portray white criminals. Christian is one of many racist white men in Portland, Oregon. Do not let the “Keep Portland Weird”, food carts and hipster lifestyle fool you. Portland has a long history of racist activity and white supremacy.

This year alone there has been three pro-Trump demonstrations; one where Christian was front and center. That is not to say that all of the pro-Trump crowd are murderous lunatics; but the same ideology is planted in the minds of the ones who are.

Even with all that’s happening in the country and local community, white supremacy continues to terrorize. Days after Christian’s “free speech” stance (or murders), organizers of the Good in the Hood festival received a racially charged letter that stated that the festival will not happen unless “you want a bloodbath.” The letter also mentioned the “death of all African Americans.” This was a direct threat to the lives of the Black community in Portland.

A HISTORY OF WHITE SUPREMACY

August 2, 1921 Portland, OR

When Oregon established itself as a state in 1859, by law, Blacks were not allowed to live there. Oregon was the only state with such a law. In the 1920’s there were as many as 200,000 klansmen in Oregon (Where do you think they and their descendants are now?). These facts were actually delivered by Portland’s mayor, Ted Wheeler, after Christian’s murders occurred. He also spoke about Vanport and how the (segregated) Black community there was thriving until a flood occurred that displaced thousands of them.Where Vanport was is a golf course now, by the way.

Yes, Oregon has a history of white supremacy. Today Portland is 77% white and 6% Black. Those numbers are a direct result of the early laws of the state and the continuing of racist politics, gentrification, and incarceration of the Black population. These weapons used are there to assist the Jeremy Christian’s in their terror. It forms a white utopia for the nationalists, while suppressing the Black population.

THE ANSWER

With the history laid out in front of the them, why aren’t Black people as a community connecting with one another? Not in an attempt to harm any member of any community. Not to threatened children on public transportation. Not to bemoan their freedom of speech rights. Rather, to come together and love themselves. To believe in themselves. To support themselves. To be themselves. In truth, if they don’t do it for themselves, then who will?
