Case Study: 72 years female with Squamous cell carcinoma of lung
Background: Broadly, there are two types of lung cancer: small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. Squamous cell carcinoma is one type of non-small cell lung cancer ant it is probably the second-most common primary lung cancer. The main risk factor includes smoking tobacco, family history of lung cancer, exposure to agents like silica, asbestos, radon, heavy metals, and diesel fumes.
Clinical history: An old female with a chronic cough, chest pain and difficulties in breathing. Histopathological report of lung biopsy on July 2, 2020 suggested Squamous cell carcinoma. Status post one cycle of chemotherapy (taken on July 2, 2020); PET/CT scan was suggested for disease status evaluation.
Our findings: This F-18 FDG PET/CT study is positive for hypermetabolic abnormality.
Hypermetabolic cavitatory soft tissue lesion in the anterior segment of right upper lobeas described — primary malignancy
Hypermetabolic mediastinal lymph nodes (right lower paratracheal, right hilar and left interlobar) - likely metastases.
Non FDG avid few tiny indeterminate nodules in the left lower lobe as described. Recommendation — follow up.
No scan evidence of clinically significant abnormal hypermetabolism elsewhere in the body.
