Bridge is now in the App Store. How will you use it?

After many months of development, testing, bug fixing and refinements, we’re pleased to announce that Bridge is now in the Apple App Store.* Ready to try it out?

Bridge enables teams to quickly translate public social media content and add important cultural, social and political notes to facilitate understanding and build connections across language divides. With intelligent tools like dictionaries and glossaries, Bridge helps you activate your community to translate quickly, efficiently and with confidence.
This release is our 0.8 version, which means we’re still very early stage. Bridge is currently only available to translators and project leaders who have set up their accounts after contacting Meedan Labs.

So far, teams have used Bridge to generate over 800 translations. Here are a few examples:
- A long-form global journalism project: Friends of the Out of Eden Walk community have been translating Tweets and Instagram posts from Georgian, Arabic, Turkish, Russian and Azeri into English. In total, nearly 20 translators have translated social media from 11 languages to English, and they make generous use of Bridge’s annotation feature, which gives translators the ability to add important cultural and political context. Here’s an example from Georgia.
- Minutes to translate: Egyptian journalist (and Meedan affiliate) Nora Younis translated real time social media from the San Bernardino, California shootings from English to Arabic — finding and translating live Tweets as quickly as 3 minutes after they were posted. She and her team compiled these Tweets into a story for Al Manassa, their newly-launched news platform in Cairo.
