We’re Translating RightsCon to Spanish and Arabic

We want to make #RightsCon more accessible to Arabic and Spanish speaking communities. Here’s how you can get involved.
The Meedan team will be at RightsCon Silicon Valley from Wednesday, March 30 to Friday, April 1, 2016.
RightsCon is the world’s leading conference convened on the future of the internet. This year will see a bigger, brighter, and better RightsCon, more dynamic and outcome-oriented than ever before. The conference shapes the global conversation among human rights experts, business leaders, technologists, human rights experts, government representatives, investors, and advocates.
Twitter plays an important role at RightsCon in terms of documenting, sharing and building networks among attendees. But at such an international conference, sometimes language can be a barrier to participation. In partnership with Global Voices Lingua and Access Now, the Meedan team will be translating the English Tweets posted by speakers and participants into Arabic and Spanish.
There are three ways you can follow our translations and support the effort:

RightsCon es la conferencia más importante del mundo sobre el futuro de Internet. Este año veremos una RightsCon mayor y mejor, más dinámica y orientada a los resultados como nunca antes. La conferencia da forma a la conversación global entre expertos de derechos humanos, líderes empresariales, tecnólogos, representantes de gobiernos, inversionistas, y defensores.
Twitter juega un papel muy importante en la RightsCon en cuanto a documentar, compartir y construir redes entre los asistentes. Pero en una conferencia internacional de ese tipo, el idioma puede, algunas veces, ser una barrera para la participación. El equipo de Meedan estará traduciendo los tuits en inglés publicados por los conferencistas y participantes al árabe y al español. Estamos muy contentos de la oportunidad de hacer que algunas de las discusiones en esta importante conferencia esten disponibles y accesibles a los que siguen tanto el Internet de habla árabe como el español.

انضم لجهود ترجمة رايتس كون: المؤتمر الأبرز في قضايا التكنولوجيا والإنترنت وحقوق الإنسان
في حين يلتفت الكثير من العاملين في حقل حقوق الانسان والتكنولوجيا إلى مؤتمر رايتس كون الذي سيقام ما بين الثلاثين من آذار وحتى الأول من نيسان القادم في مدينة سان فرانسيسكو الأمريكية، سيتابع الكثيرون المؤتمر من خلال شبكات التواصل الاجتماعي. وسيكون موقع التدوين المصغر تويتر أحد أبرز هذه المواقع حيث سيساعد الحضور والمتابعين على مواكبة الأحداث والنقاشات التي تحصل بالتوازي كجزء من أعمال المؤتمر.
يعتبر رايتس كون من أبرز المؤتمرات الدولية التي تتناول موضوع حقوق الإنسان وتقاطعها مع التكنولوجيا والإنترنت وتنظمه مؤسسة اكسس ويجمع خبراء ونشطاء حقوق الإنسان ورجال الأعمال والمبرمجين والمستثمرين إضافة إلى بعض القادة السياسيين بهدف تبادل الأفكار وبناء الاستراتيجيات حول مستقبل الإنترنت والإطلاع على آخر التطورات التكنولوجية.
هذا العام، تسعى مؤسسة ميدان بالتعاون مع منظمي المؤتمر، إلى ترجمة جزء من التغريدات إلى اللغتين الإسبانية والعربية بهدف جعل هذه النقاشات والمعلومات متاحة لجزء أكبر من المعنيين بمواضيع المؤتمر من الناطقين باللغات الإسبانية والعربية.

عقد أول رايتس كون في سان فرانسيسكو في العام 2011 ومن ثم في ريو دي جانيرو في البرازيل ومانيلا بالفلبين، وهذا هو المؤتمر الخامس حيث يعود إلى سان فرنسيسكو، كاليفورنيا. ومن أبرز المواضيع الذي يتناولها المؤتمر حرية التعبير، الحكومات الالكترونية والاندماج الالكتروني، فجوة الاتصال والتواصل، الخصوصية والأمن الالكتروني، حرية التعبير واستخدام الإنترنت، التجارة الالكترونية وغيرها من المواضيع.
إن استمرار ونجاح المؤتمر دليل على حجم وأهمية مجتمع المهتمين والناشطين في قضايا حقوق الانسان والحقوق الالكترونية. ويطمح المنظمون أن يستطيع المؤتمر التأثير في القضايا التي سيتم مناقشتها والدفع نحو تغيير إيجابي خاصة بما يتعلق بالقضايا الحقوقية.
