The Check browser extension works with web-based tools popular with verificationistas, like Tweetdeck.

In the digital hustle and bustle of social newsgathering and fact checking, we often want to bookmark something — a video, a link, a tweet — to come back to later and investigate more closely. Now, Check makes that easier then ever, with a new browser extension that allows you to quickly add media items that you find online to your Check team for investigation.

To install the new browser extension, click here for Chrome or here for Firefox.

You can access the browser extension from the upper right hand corner, offering you the ability to add the current page directly to a project of your choice.

Here’s how you can use it:

Adding a Link

  • Browse the internet, and find a Tweet, YouTube video, Facebook post or an Instagram photo that you want your team to investigate
  • Click the Check icon
  • Choose one of the projects you want to add this item to, and you just save it.

Adding a Claim

  • You can also highlight text from an article, a web page, or an incoming web WhatsApp message
  • Right click, select the Check icon
  • Choose one of the projects you want to add this text to.
Highlight any text on a site and add it directly to Check as a free text claim.

If you work in digital media and want to try out Check as a way to streamline and coordinate your social news gathering and verification workflow, request early access to Check here.
