Media Party is a three-day media event in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Media Party 2019 is here and our team at Meedan are happy to be participating in it. We’ll be presenting a keynote about fact-checking at scale with WhatsApp, doing a workshop on creating processes and standards on that same theme and connecting with the Latin America media at the Media Feria.

Media Party is a three-day event in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with more than 2500 entrepreneurs, journalists, developers and designers from around the world working and imagining the future of media. Big companies like The New York Times, The Guardian, Vox Media, ProPublica, Watchup, Neo4J, and DocumentCloud will be side by side with regional communities.

On Friday, August 30, Caio Almeida, Meedan’s Senior Software Engineer, will be presenting a keynote, Check + WhatsApp with Meedan: Fact-Checking Against Disinformation at Scale, showing the integration between Check (an open-source tool for collaborative fact-checking tool) and WhatsApp. It allows users who receive a piece of content on WhatsApp to directly forward it to a fact-checking organization and then automatically receive the results of that fact-check. This solution was used during the India elections this year, where WhatsApp has 200 million monthly active users.

That same day, Program Associate, Isabella Barroso, through the workshop WhatsUp with WhatsApp? Fact-checking at the scale of 40 million will be collaborating with attendees on creating new processes, standards and better solutions for fact-checking viral misinformation on private messaging apps at scale.

We'll also be at the Media Feira, so come talk to us, share some ideas and get to know more about Check and Meedan.

Caio's keynote at 11:20
