Meedan is honored to be a part of an ambitious new journalistic initiative in the Philippines. Tsek.ph is a collaborative fact-checking project for the Philippines’ 2019 elections bringing together 11 news organizations and 3 universities to counter disinformation and provide the public with verified information related to the May 13, 2019 midterm elections.

With an unique set of partners, the Tsek.ph collaborative fact-checking project was launched at the University of the Philippines (UP) on Monday, February 11, the eve of the 2019 campaign period, Rappler reported.

Tsek.ph will verify and fact-check claims made in connection with the 2019 Philippines’ elections. These claims include platforms and campaign promises of candidates; election-related statements and remarks made by candidates, personalities, government agencies, and other entities; and election-related posts on social media, blogs and other platforms.

Tsek.ph is guided by the Code of Principles of the International Fact-checking Network (IFCN) and supported by the Facebook Journalism Project and technology provider Meedan.

Meedan and Tsek.ph share a common interest in supporting adoption of open source, collaborative fact-checking and verification tools, datasets related to this work, and best practices in the Philippines and the Asia Pacific region.

Tsek.ph incorporates Check, Meedan’s open source collaborative verification and fact checking platform, to it’s daily fact-checking and verification process. Check has been used in election monitoring projects in Egypt, USA, France, UK, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Mexico and now in The Philippines.
