With Keep, Check can enhance and automate your team’s archiving efforts. Keep is a Check Premium feature — to have it set up for your team please contact us at check@meedan.com.

If you have Keep enabled for your team, it will automatically do any or all of three things with any URL added to Check:

1. Add the URL to Archive.is

2. Add the URL to Video Vault, a special video archiving service maintained by RightsLab. This works with URLs from YouTube, Twitter or Facebook that contain videos.

3. Take a screenshot of the link

This way, in case the link goes down or is removed at any point in time, you’ll always have a backup.

Here’s how to get started:

Get the link you want to add from the social media account and add to your project within the team that has Keep enabled.

Keep will automatically detect the URL and let you know it’s taking action.

Wait for a couple of minutes (at most an hour) and visit the meda item’s page on Check.

Depending on your settings, you should find three new annotations added to your item’s Verification Timeline:

  • A screenshot of the link. You can click to see this image full screen and right click to save it to your local drive..
  • A link added to Archive.is shows as an annotation. Clicking on this link will take you to the archive.
  • A link added to Video Vault shows as an annotation. Clicking on this link will take you to the Video Vault file, where you can view and download the video and its metadata.

Please Note — Common Troubleshooting

Archiving can be a tricky practice, because URLs might present different content for different users, depending on your geographic location, any cookies on your browser and where you are logged into popular services like Facebook or Twitter. Here are some known challenges that you might encounter:

  • Video Vault does not get back to us with a link.

In case this happens, you can refresh the media item from the three dots menu to restart archiving to Video Vault.

  • A screenshot only captures the view of a page when you are logged out (i.e., it might show a paywall announcement or login screen over the content you are keen to archive). In this case, you should take a screenshot manually and upload the image to the verification timeline using the built-in image uploader feature.
