Today marks the first anniversary of the WoM! The Meeds project was initiated in 2020 to tackle issues in the world of work. During the next two years, we researched and experimented, incorporated as a non-profit, laid out our vision in a whitepaper, launched the MEED token, released the Hubs software and finally bootstrapped the protocol. In this article, we’ll summarize the highlights of our first year at WoM.

Meeds Tokens and the WoM

One of the most significant milestones we achieved this year was decentralization. We handed over the responsibility of issuance to a smart contract minting to multi-sig reserves. This was a big step towards our goal of becoming fully decentralized.

So, on May 1, 2022, we kicked off the WoM genesis by enabling staking Meeds tokens and the generation of Deeds. We thought what better day to start than International Workers’ Day?

It’s been a year since then, and 4M Meeds (about 40% of the supply) have already been staked, leading us halfway to minting Tanit, the first city of the WoM with 50 Deeds. There is still plenty of opportunity to become an owner of the earliest deeds in the WoM. The next phase will be called Reschef and will expand supply to 1000 more deeds.

Meeds Hub Software

All year long, we’ve been working hard on improving the Meeds software so that it can be used as a hub for all kinds of web3 or non-web3 communities. It’s all open-source software and we’re working in public, so you can check out the code on GitHub.

The core dev team has implemented a few changes, thanks to your feedback, like the Contribution Center, an Overview page, an improved Activity Feed, a Navigation menu, Branding customization, and performance optimization. The software is now more responsive, even on mobile devices.

Community & Governance

While working our heads down, we thought it would be useful to spread the word, so we created official accounts on Twitter, LinkedIn, Medium, and Discord where you can reach us.

We’re happy to say that we opened a Hub for our own contributors, where we launched several successful contribution programs, and we distributed over 50,000 MEEDs in rewards to Meeds builders.

We’re still working on governance, but we’ve made some progress by opening technical and product committees that meet regularly and whose work is freely accessible from the Builders Hub. We share their roadmap on GitHub, and you can expect to see some votes coming soon on Snapshot.

We recently updated the meeds.io website to showcase the product a bit more while highlighting access to our investors’ dApp.

Investors App

The dApp is a must-stop for all holders of tokens in the Meeds ecosystem (Meeds, xMeeds, or Deeds). We’ve added a Portfolio section, a Deeds Marketplace, and a Token Metrics section for viewing the distribution of meeds in circulation, TVL, and market cap.

What’s Next?

Our priority is to continue implementing the elements of the white paper. We’re excited to work on :

  • User Engagement Minting
  • a Hub Explorer
  • a new Connector architecture
  • Xeeds
  • APIs & SDKs
  • the Tax system for the WoM

Oh and by the way, we’re also making plans for an air drop. Follow us more details 😜!

Thanks for being a part of the Meeds journey. We can’t wait to continue building a decentralized future with you! If you’re interested or have questions, come chat with us on Discord.
