If you are careful and follow the preventive steps, you will be able to safeguard yourself from online frauds.

The blog will take you through 6 preventive measures to be mindful of while shopping from Meesho to have a risk free shopping experience.

  • Keep it Personal
  • Watch out for Links
  • Don’t fall for fake lotteries/contests
  • Don’t Entertain Fraud Payment Requests
  • Check if the Website is Genuine
  • Reach Out for Support

Keep it Personal

Meesho never asks for OTPs or personal information (name, phone number, email, bank details, login OTP) over calls/emails/posts/WhatsApp messages. An OTP may be sought for delivering goods. However, a customer is asked for an OTP only when the payment has already been made. It is only used for verification of the details. Meesho never asks for OTPs or payment details for payment purposes.

If you get a call/message where you are being asked for personal details such as name, phone number, bank details, etc., it is best to not entertain such requests.

Watch Out for Links

The fraudster might ask you to click on an unknown link. By clicking on the link you are at a risk of sharing your personal information. Be cautious about such situations.

Also, never respond to links asking you to update your user account or password.

Don’t Fall for Fake Lotteries/Contests

Do not pay fees for any prizes or rewards or lotteries offered on your phone.

Typically in a lottery fraud, a recipient is informed that they have won an enormous amount or a “too good to be true” reward.

To claim the prize, the recipient is asked to deposit a transfer or processing fee like TDS or GST or courier charges in advance i.e., before disbursement of prize money.

They might also pretend to be a representative of Meesho or send you a fake post/letter/email/photos that appear legitimate. You should be aware that Meesho does not send posts/emails/text messages or make phone calls related to lucky draws or lottery contests. Meesho also doesn’t ask for money transfers through links. If you find yourself in such a situation, be careful and refrain from sharing any information.

Don’t Entertain Fraud Payment Requests

Avoid paying any money or deposit funds to any person wrongfully claiming to be Meesho’s representative or job consultant(s).

Neither Meesho nor any of its representatives or authorised recruitment consultants take money or any other kind of payment for employment at Meesho or enrolment on the supplier panel of Meesho.

Check if the Website is Genuine

A fraudster can create an illegitimate website/ phishing website that mirrors Meesho’s official website. They might put fake promotions or offers on these sites to trick people into sharing their personal details such as Aadhaar card number, bank account details, debit/credit card information, digital wallet details, or OTP, etc

Fake sites pick a domain name that sounds similar to the original website name. If you check carefully, you will find errors in the spelling or a slightly tweaked version of the original website name.

Meesho’s official domain name is — https://meesho.com/ . A fraudster might slightly tweak the name and create websites with similar sounding names. Be careful and check the URL before purchasing any product.
