Breaking News: Naspers is now on board the Meesho Express!

Drum roll please! We are super stoked to announce that Meesho has raised $125 million as part of its Series D round led by South African company Naspers Ventures along with participation from Facebook and existing investors SAIF, Sequoia, Shunwei Capital, RPS and Venture Highway. Former Vodafone Group CEO (and a receiver of an honorary knighthood from the Queen of England) Arun Sarin, who had participated in a round in March, has now come on board as adviser to Meesho.

With the funds raised, Meesho will focus more on areas outside of India’s major metro regions and will cater to remote customers, not serviced by existing e-commerce marketplaces. Meesho will also continue to make its operations in already existing geographies stronger.

We will also be using the funds to build and make our technology even more stronger, to introduce new product categories and lines, and to develop our machine learning platforms to handle and make an impact on a national scale.

Our co founder and CEO Vidit Aatrey is particularly proud of the fact that Meesho has managed to cut across gender, education levels, risk appetites and vocations to create livelihoods for people with no investment of their own. He says:

“Our social sellers are small retailers, women, students, and retired citizens, with 70 percent of them being homemakers who have found financial freedom and a business identity without having to step outside their homes.”

From our humble beginnings, four years back, we have grown at a massive pace and today we are a 15,000 suppliers and 2,000,000 resellers strong community throughout the country. Making our resellers successful is a core Meesho value and we are proud to be living it everyday.
