According to a recent research by Nielson, there has been a surge of reading and spending more time with books since the lockdown happened. Reading is an essential respite from what is happening outside and from a heady escape from the daily rigmarole of our lives in the COVID scenario.

Meeshoites are also reading voraciously during this time and our recent virtual book meet was evidence of that. The theme was lockdown reads and in this free flowing session, participants could talk about their favourite reads or any book they might have read recently.

Category Manager Megha Mathur has been reading women centric narratives, Black writers and books with strong female characters. Her recommendations include The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett that deals with the consequences of racism and Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams, a dark comedy that touches on themes of race, mental health and the life of a young Black woman negotiating her life.
