Meet a Tutor: Sachi Williamson

Sachi Williamson
ALM Developer at Northwest Cadence, Pacific Lutheran University grad

Tell us a little about yourself…

I’m a born-and-bred Minnesotan who now lives in Seattle, working at Northwest Cadence after graduating from Pacific Lutheran University recently. I love programming, music, teaching, singing in the car, and watching Corgi YouTube videos (all at the same time). Tutoring with CodeHS is so rewarding by being able to share the joy of coding with students!

When did you first start learning computer science?

I first started programming when I was at a technology camp in high school, and I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s amazing to see how a few lines of certain words put together can create something so awesome!

Do you have any favorite programs or projects that you’ve built?

For my senior capstone project in college, I made an application that allowed you to interact with a Kinect by waving your arms around and “conducting” an MP3 song. Raise both arms, start playback. Change speed of your arms, change playback speed. I definitely got my exercise when testing it!

Favorite ice cream flavor?

Birthday cake ice cream. Because everyday can be your birthday with this ice cream.

Fun facts about you?

I’m pretty small (5'1"), but I was an ice hockey goalie in high school. So I’m essentially the scariest person ever.

Words of advice for the next generation of coders?

If you think that coding is your passion, be confident, persistent and go out into the world with a sense of curiosity and humility. Be yourself, never stop learning from others. Just like when you’re coding, take everything in life one step at a time while acknowledging the end goal. We’re betting on the next generation of coders to make a huge difference in the world, so bring your ‘A’ game!
