Boat Trip from Manado to Bunaken
Snorkelling in Indonesia
This winter we went to Indonesia again. The purpose of the trip was snorkelling.
During our sabbatical leave from September 2022 to September 2023, we spent a total of three months in Indonesia. We enjoyed a lot of snorkelling, but this was the first time we travelled with an underwater camera.
We left the UK for Indonesia in early December, and since our arrival in Manado, the internet in Indonesia has been so bad that we have not been able to update the blog.
In fact, we arrived back in the UK yesterday and I will update my travelogue for what I was unable to write.
First up on our snorkelling trip to Indonesia, this time to Bunaken Island. It is known as one of the world’s top diving spots.
We usually stay at the Panorama Backpackers guesthouse on Bunaken Island.

We are connected to the owner, Lucy, via Watts Up, so we booked a room directly and incidentally asked her to arrange a boat from Manado for us.
There are regular boat services from Manado to Bunaken Island, so you can also get there by public transport.
However, it is a bit of a walk from the public boat terminal on Bunaken Island to Panorama Backpackers, so it is convenient to charter a boat that will take you to the beach in front of Panorama Backpackers.
If you are visiting Bunaken Island for the first time, it is easy to take a charter boat from the port where public boats to Bunaken Island depart. But this was our third visit to Bunaken Island this year and we decided to take a boat from the beach landing, which is about 30 minutes' drive from Manado and is the closest straight line to Bunaken Island. That way, of course, the charter boat is cheaper. We took the boat from a beach landing called Bahowo.
