On Sunday 26 March, we left Indonesia and arrived in Singapore. Entering Singapore at Changi Airport was smooth, as all we had to do was scan our passports. We had already registered our Arrival Card online.

However, when we tried to take the metro from the airport to the city centre, we were shocked to find out that the Singaporean transport IC card (EZ-link card) could not be charged with credit cards issued outside Singapore. We couldn’t believe that such an inconvenience happened in the cosmopolitan city of Singapore. I will write about this in another blog post.

This time we stayed at a hotel near Arab Street, which was a little expensive at S$137, but that’s Singapore. There are many inexpensive restaurants in the area, so I think we were able to keep our food costs down. Since this is a stopover in Singapore for a connecting flight, it’s better to leave the country quickly.

Today, Monday 27 March, we will return to Changi Airport and fly to Saigon, Vietnam. Bamboo Air flight QH308 departs Singapore at 13:40, so we should leave the hotel at around 10:30. It is scheduled to arrive in Saigon at 15:10. The time difference between Singapore and Saigon is one hour and Saigon is one hour behind. This doesn’t make sense to us. Because if you look at the map, Saigon and Hanoi are both east of Singapore.

I mean, Bangkok in the north and Jakarta in the south are both in the same time zone as Vietnam, and the weird thing is Singapore and Kuala Lumpur?

By the way, we fly to Vietnam because the flights to Saigon were cheap, but where we want to go to is actually Cambodia. For now, we are heading from Saigon, Vietnam, to the Mekong Delta and to Con Son island which is an island that was once used as a prison.

Then we plan to cross the southern border of Cambodia and travel through Cambodia. If possible, we would like to go as far as Sum Reap, where Angkor Wat is located, but the Khmer New Year is on the 14th of April this year and we would prefer to leave Cambodia before that. Thai New Year is also said to be the same, so going to Thailand at this time of the year might not be a good idea either.
