How to Test-Fly the New Beam app
We received amazing responses from our existing Beam users (of the old Beam app) to volunteer to test-fly for the upcoming new Beam app. In fact, nearly 100 signed up just within the first 5 minutes of the email. We are now expanding this Test-Fly experience to 600 Beam-Liever volunteers. Below are instructions for these 600 on how to test-fly the new Beam app.
(If you’re not a volunteer, feel free to skip, but confirm that you’ve registered on our mailing list and have white-listed yourfriends@meetbeam.com from your email inbox. We’ll be in touch soon about the new, public release.)
I. What To Expect Next
You will be receiving an email from either Apple AppStore or Google Play Store with an email invite. This will happen in two batches. 200 of you will receive this email today (Tuesday, September 10) or tomorrow, and the remaining 400 will receive it by Friday (September 13).
If you haven’t specified a device type to us before, you might receive both emails — one from the Apple AppStore and one from Google Play Store — which means that you should look for and open the email that is applicable to your actual device.
Once again, while this is a real Beam account with real money (real earning potential! 🤩) and all the right new features, there could be bugs 🐞. The purpose of the Test-Fly is to get your help sanding off these rough edges.
II (a). Instructions to Start — For iPhone Devices
Step 1: Before you receive the email, be sure to first download “TestFlight” from the AppStore (for free):
Step 2: When you receive the email, from your mobile phone (not your desktop/laptop), look for and open the email from sender “TestFlight” (see screenshot) titled “Beam Financial has invited you to test Beam Banking Alpha”, and tap on the blue button “View in Testflight”
Step 3: The following screen will pop-up from your TestFlight app, tap on “Open” which will allow you to redeem the invitation and run the new Beam app Test-Fly experience on your phone.
Step 4: You’ll be asked to login to the new Beam app. Please be sure to use your existing Beam login credentials. (If it doesn’t work for any reason, try creating a new login.) For the Test-Fly experience, you’ll be asked to revisit the Tutorial and re-link an external bank account to fund Beam. All of your prior Billie balance and History should carry over, and all earnings you accumulate during the Test-Fly experience will be real (and will carry over into the new public release!).
II (b). Instructions to Start — For Android Devices
Step 1: From your mobile phone (not your desktop/laptop), look for and open the following email from “Beam Team” titled “Android Instructions to Test-Fly the New Beam”. Tap on the link in the email or use this link:
Step 2: You’ll be directed to the following screen. Tap on “Become a Tester”, and then on the next screen tap on the link “Download it on Google Play”.
Step 3: The above link will direct you to the Google Play Store to download the Test-Fly app. If you have the Beam app already downloaded before, you may experience some delays in having the correct app “refreshed”. The way to recognize if you have the new version or not is to look for the green banner text on top (see below screenshot) that says “You’re a beta tester for this app. Future updates will include beta versions.”
Google Play Store is not very good at updating the right version of the app quickly, so another way to tell if you have the latest Test-Fly version is to check for this (new) logo on the Welcome screen of the app (which indicates that you have the right version):
Step 4: You’ll be asked to login to the new Beam app. Please be sure to use your existing Beam login credential. (If it doesn’t work for any reason, try creating a new login.) For the Test-Fly experience, you’ll be asked to revisit the Tutorial and re-link an external bank account to fund Beam. All of your prior Billie balance and History should carry over, and all earnings you accumulate during the Test-Fly experience will be real (and will carry over into the new public release!).
III. After Download, What to Test For
All right. What features can you test in this new Test-Fly app? All features! EXCEPT that when you invite friends to join Beam, they can only join the Beam mailing list (which will credit you for 5 Billies as rewards) but cannot download the app or fund their account (yet, since the Test-Fly experience is only limited to the 600 volunteers). This means that the “Get 2.50% Base Rate” and “Get 3.00% Base Rate” reward options will not be available until the public release.
IV. How to Relay Your Feedback to Us
To give us feedback and report bugs and frustrations, you can email us ANYTIME at yourfriends@meetbeam.com. The Test-Fly program is intended to uncover any and all issues relating the the new Beam app, so please keep the dialogue open, honest and frequent with us over emails!
We will be conducting “office hours”—an opportunity for us to engage in a 10-minute phone call dialogue about the issues you’ve encountered, and to conduct any live, over-the-phone troubleshooting. This is optional, but you can schedule them right here based on what’s available.
V. What’s Next After Test-Fly
After successful testing of the Test-Fly app, and fixing all the reported issues, we will be publishing the official public release version of the new Beam app on AppStore and Google Play Store.
Around the public release date, you’ll receive an official email invitation with links to download the new Beam app. You will need to re-download the app, but you’ll be able to login with the same credentials you’ve created during the Test-Fly phase, and all your funds, interest earnings, Billies balance and History will carry over into this new public release automatically.
