Bitfury Hires Former Justice Department Cybercrime Chief to Lead Crystal USA
DuBose Will Introduce Ground-Breaking Blockchain Analytics Tool to Key U.S. Audiences
AMSTERDAM, May 10, 2018 — The Bitfury Group today named veteran U.S. Justice Department cybercrime chief Michael DuBose to help introduce Crystal, the all-in-one Bitcoin Blockchain investigative tool, to U.S. law enforcement agents, financial groups and other key audiences.
DuBose’s appointment as president of Crystal USA underscores Bitfury’s commitment to building public awareness and appreciation for Crystal among groups that can benefit from the ground-breaking analytics tool — in the United States and around the world.
Launched by Bitfury earlier this year, Crystal provides a comprehensive view of the Bitcoin Blockchain and uses advanced analytics and data scraping to map suspicious transactions and related entities.
Crystal also offers a proprietary “risk-scoring” system to assist investigators in revealing and tracking malicious behavior. Crystal was designed to be used by law enforcement agencies to track suspicious bitcoin transactions to real-world entities and determine relationships between criminal actors, and by financial and other institutions engaged in compliance and due diligence activities.
“We are honored that Michael has joined Bitfury to help key audiences understand the crucial need for Crystal,” said Valery Vavilov, CEO of Bitfury. “With Crystal, we have taken a critical step toward ensuring that the Bitcoin Blockchain and other public blockchains have a safe and secure future. And Michael will help lead those efforts for us in this critically important marketplace.”
“I am thrilled to play a key role at Bitfury leading business growth for Crystal,” said DuBose. “Crystal makes it much easier to identify and track criminal activities on the blockchain, thereby providing a vital service to law enforcement agencies, financial institutions and other groups across the United States. With Crystal, I look forward to helping those groups identify bad actors and build a more secure Bitcoin Blockchain.”
DuBose comes to Bitfury with more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement and data security. For 11 years, he served as Chief of the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section of the U.S. Justice Department. There he led a division of 40 federal prosecutors, indicted and tried computer crime and IP cases of national and international significance, and served as the department’s chief executive on policy and prosecution priorities to combat transnational cybercrime.
He earned numerous distinctions throughout his government career, including the Criminal Division’s highest award for service and leadership.
More recently, DuBose was Managing Director and led the Cyber Investigations Practice Group at Kroll. There, he built a sophisticated cyber-investigations practice for rapid response to major data breaches, cyber theft of valuable IP and proprietary information, real-time data analytics and network security monitoring, remediation, and effective incident response.
DuBose graduated with honors from Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School.
Crystal is the all-in-one Blockchain investigative tool.
