Welcome to the fifteenth Megapont newsletter.

A lot has transpired since our last newsletter. Kong Fu took place, MegaPunks was launched, and Pixel events happened. We’ve navigated several metas, open editions, memes, Pepe, and memecoins. Ethereum’s value increased from $1000 to $2000, Bitcoin was traded at prices unseen for years, and all of this has occurred since December 2022.

Today’s newsletter provides preliminary information about MegaCores and how they will influence the Megapont ecosystem in 2023. Please note that all details presented here are subject to change. Any ambiguities and specifics shared should be understood as intentionally communicated this way.

Collector Experience

Outside of MegaCores, the team is working on a rebuild of our core collector experience. We are now spread across three blockchains and seven hundred and ninety-six collections.

We will be rolling out a complete overhaul of how you browse, manage and trade Megapont assets this summer.

MegaCores

Ordinals. Up and to the right by almost every metric you can think of. Marketcap, inscription count, trading volume and, most importantly to us, the number of active participants in the ecosystem.

The pace of innovation and development has been unlike anything else in web3 for as long as we can remember. Ordinals and Bitcoin NFTs are here, and they are here to stay.

All of our new and original art will be Ordinals for the foreseeable future.

So what are MegaCores?

We heard you want original, high-quality inscriptions that have collectibility.

MegaCores are purchasable consumable items that are used to power the Rainbownator. They, in turn, produce unique Ordinal Inscriptions.

MegaCores are consumable items paired with other NFTs or FTs to generate a specific Ordinal Inscription. The paired asset is sometimes destroyed along with the core, although this is not typically the case.

There are only three ways to obtain a MegaCore.

  1. Buying with $PIXE (Ethereum)
  2. Buying with $MEGA (Stacks)
  3. Every MegaPunk can claim one at no cost

You may have noticed that we aren’t referring to MegaCores as NFTs. That’s because we are developing them as a centralised, chain-agnostic digital item. There is no supply cap for MegaCores, and the most optimal way to speculate on their value is through one of the fungible tokens used to purchase MegaCores.

One of the first collections you can use your MegaCores with is MegaKongs. You can pair your MegaCore with a MegaKong NFT to create a pixel variation Ordinal Inscription. The original MegaKong will not be destroyed; it will remain in your wallet.

Support will also be extended to third-party collections. We plan to imprint our unique flair onto their base templates and imbue them with our exclusive traits! We may introduce fully generative mashups for some collections and others, a one-of-a-kind animated honorary piece. The infrastructure involving the Rainbownator and MegaCores provides us the versatility we’ve long desired.

Lastly: the apes operating the Rainbownator are mischievous and always doing things they shouldn’t be. Occasionally, there will be auctions for the crazy experiments that have gone wrong in the Rainbownator, and you can exchange your MegaCores for those Inscriptions.

When will the Rainbownator and MegaCores go live? We’re not yet ready to commit to a specific date at this stage, but we pledge to maintain our transparency. We’ll ensure you’re kept abreast of developments as things progress.

You can expect to hear from the Apollo team soon regarding the technical nature of how we will establish provenance on multiple lazy-minted collections.

Megapont Lisbon

We initially planned to host a significant event in Lisbon. However, after consulting with several community members, we discovered that for many people, this period coincides with a particularly busy time in their primary career activities. It quickly became apparent that we might end up hosting another expensive party that could attract more attendees from partner projects than from our own community.

We are planning to host a dinner for any community members who plan to be in Lisbon on the evening of Thursday, the 8th. We have created a Google Form to gather the contact details of all those interested.

Please do not submit details if you are not genuinely interested in attending.

Have an incredible weekend, and the team is excited to build out the next phase of Megapont with you all.
