One of the things that motivates a lot of the decisions we make at Megsoft is our desire to not only prosper as a company, but also to help the developer community grow as a whole. Everyone wins when there are more capable IT professionals on the market, and we believe in the potential of the Dominican developers community — the very one that gave us many of the technology experts currently under our employment. We have always striven to have our team share their expertise whenever possible, giving novice developers the opportunity to learn skills that will make them invaluable assets.

Our involvement in the Xamarin training sessions hosted at Microsoft Dominicana’s HQ is just the latest example. Over the last few months, Microsoft welcomed several local developers to take part in a set of workshops led by our very own Lead Software Developer, Hector Minaya. The goal was not only to provide useful information and guidelines, but to demonstrate their applications in real time as well. Attendees were tasked with putting the subject of each workshop to practice, right there and then. If it sounds daunting, that’s only because you haven’t had the chance to experience Minaya’s expert tutoring skills firsthand. At the end of the program, those who attended all workshops got a certification to show for it (best kind of swag, the career-boosting kind).

The sessions themselves delved into the technologies involved in the development of applications with Xamarin in mind (Xamarin.Forms, in particular), as well as best practices when employing these technologies. MVVM Patterns, utilizing the Prism framework, incorporating Azure with Xamarin and sending push notifications through Azure’s Notification Hub, are some of the subjects we focused on for this training.

June 30th was our last session, and we are incredibly proud of the up-and-coming developers that went through every workshop and came out on top at the end. Here is to you!

Left: Microsoft Representative, Mabel Gerónimo. Right: Megsoft’s very own Héctor Minaya. Middle: A very happy dev full of potential!

And if you missed the opportunity to participate earlier on, don’t fret! We will have many more events like this in the future. Stay posted and make sure you follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+ and LinkedIn to keep up with our latest updates :)
