The age-old practice of humans, to talk to themselves, is the reason for all that we humans do. We wrap this habit in a beautiful word called ‘Wonder’ only to justify the carefree wander of our talk with ourselves. This talk has caused many to go through terrible anxiety. Speaks a lot about one’s talking abilities I would say. Often these people are artists.

Time for a bold, controversial, earth shattering claim –

Art is just a person sharing this talk with self with the rest of the world

We know we flattered ourselves by thinking this claim — so to speak — is bold and controversial and whatnot, please allow us to do so as in our talks with ourselves, we treat ourselves as friends and often exaggerate the impact of our actions. And because we do that, we are able to work without anticipating anything in return (we expect comments from you, we just don’t anticipate any!) to get a few of these talks artists had with themselves in various forms.

Although we hate to talk about it, COVID-19 pandemic has begun to grip the artist world (as if it isn’t the one around us!). People experienced a forced freedom from work which led to everyone finding time to do the things they wanted to since long. Now the times are changing. Work has begun and the child that woke up in everyone is getting unhappier by the minute. Another broad assumption but so is the notion that we exist.

So, let this small September issue of Mehfil remind the unhappy child that

this too shall pass

and he or she will play his heart out again! Until then, escape in here —
