MEL
MEL Magazine

--

MEL is dedicated to producing original content about the topics guys care about: their bodies, their mental health, their jobs, their money, their sex lives, their relationships, their digital personas and entertainment. Serious stuff that we intend to come across the exact opposite way — approachable, resonant and entertaining.

Who are we?

A team of Los Angeles-based writers, editors and audio/video producers who have done work for MTV, HBO, the New York Times, Esquire, Matter, Harper’s, New York magazine, Playboy, The Baffler, The Awl, Bloomberg Businessweek and many other outlets.

What are we looking for?

Regular contributors, new columns or series, profiles, features and essays on our core topics. More simply, stuff like the following…

Profiles of people who are carving out their own paths:

First person encounters and as-told-to stories:

Interviews and Q&As with fascinating individuals:

Essays about the weird, sad, and interesting shit life brings our way:

Reported features on topics that matter:

Where do we publish?

On Medium: About 20 times a week since January.

In our newsletter: Our favorite features and essays (1,500 to 3,500 words), twice a week. So far we’ve written about meditating cops, tween bodybuilders, Stephen Colbert’s Rolling Stones cover band, digital hoarding and the worst T-shirts from the 1990s.

On Vimeo: New videos weekly, like the following:

On SoundCloud (and in iTunes): New podcasts throughout the week, including:

What about art?

We’re also looking to cultivate relationships with freelance photographers, illustrators, graphic designers and more. Please get in touch with our art director Brian Emrich to find out more.

Do we pay?

Yes, of course, we do.

And, finally, how to pitch us:

If you haven’t already, email a headline and a paragraph or two to pitches@melindustries.com — including your background and experience. If we’re interested, you’ll be hearing from us.
