When you write for a living, it can be a challenge not to take criticism personally. I mean, if you’re putting all of yourself and your thinking into your writing, and people think that your writing is bad, it must also mean that your personality and thoughts are bad, too, right?

Writer or not, everyone can benefit from figuring out how to handle criticism without completely unraveling. Personally, my technique is to cry in the bathroom and call my mommy. The good news? After reading Chris Bourn’s feature on how to handle criticism (both giving and receiving) like a pro, I only called my mom sobbing once today.
