“Walk as if you are kissing the earth with your feet” Thich Nhat Hanh

We often hear that walking is good for our health but do we often hear that walking is also great for our mind? We do, but we don’t really pay attention while we are walking, am I right?

Nowadays we don’t walk as much as we used to do. In fact we prefer to take the elevators instead of the stairs, the car instead of going on foot and we will try to avoid walking as much as possible. You really have to motivate yourself to take the stairs or go on foot! It’s a hard life.

And yet walking is essential for our body: it allows proper blood flow and circulation. We often underestimate the power of the walk, people don’t take anymore pleasure while walking. Heads down, hands down, everyone walk and try to avoid the other one. If someone pushes you, the war is declared. We don’t smile, we don’t look, we just walk passively. How can we change this? How can we become more active minded while walking?

Here are a few tips, read until the end and follow every step.

  1. WALK with your head up and chest out

While walking, don’t just walk passively. Keep your head up and chest out. You will see a total change while walking with that posture. First it allows you to have a great vision as you see where you are walking. Secondly you will clearly feel more energetic and confident by keeping your head up and chest out. Don’t look down! Embrace life, embrace your vision and walk confidently.

“Embrace your vision, walk confidently”

I see so many people walking with their heads down, thinking about all their problems, trying to figure out solutions. They don’t even pay attention to the child smiling at them or to that lady/guy looking are them. Their body is here but their mind is somewhere else. If you keep thinking about something else while walking, you will ignore all the beauty there is to watch in this world. By looking down, you don’t allow your vision to grow and expand. Thus, finding solutions will be more complicated. If you look up and expand your vision, the chances that you’ll find a solution are much higher. Maybe you will look at something that will inspire you and give you new ideas. So follow this simple rule: Head up and chest out!

2. Interact with others

When you walk to go to work, you see so many people, so many faces. But do you ever really look at one person in particular? If there is something special, yes of course. Well I want you to not just see people but interact with them if you have any opportunity. If you see a woman or man struggling with their luggage, give a hand. If you see someone smiling at you, give a smile back! If there is an old lady waiting for the bus, have a little chat with her.

Don’t just ignore people, because you have so much to learn by just sharing something with them. When you are walking, embrace the movement, the flow and look around you. I’m sure you will see someone, something that will allow you to interact with that one person. Don’t try to avoid people, interact with them. I know it is easier said that done but with some good will and motivation this will change your life.

3. Walk like a winner

Last but not least, while walking I want you to walk like a winner. What does it mean? It means that even though you have all these problems inside your head, I want you to take the posture of a winner: head up, chest out and walk with confidence. Have you ever noticed that just by looking at someone’s walk, you can guess if this person is a winner or not? Some people walk so confidently that they really stand out! I don’t want you to walk like a model but still, walk with confidence and you will notice the change.

Every step you are making is a step towards your goal. So you are making progress every time. Walk like a winner, with some pride and confidence!

You can also listen to some music, it will give you the boost you need.

So remember these three rules while you walk :

  1. Walk with your head up and chest out
  2. Interact with people
  3. Walk like a winner

And don’t forget that some people in this world are not able to walk, and that walking is a dream for them. You are lucky that both of your legs are functional, so embrace your legs, embrace your walk and walk towards your goals with confidence.

Stay Blessed
