Still listened on streaming every day and more loved than ever: old school hip-hop is definitely not extinct. And if the 90’s are considered as hip-hop’s golden age, the Wu-Tang Clan is living proof that there’s no harm in dreaming of a second act and surely no such thing as ‘too old’.

The Wu-Tang Clan making History all over again

I didn’t realize I was getting older until I heard of the ‘Gods of Rap’ tour. My first reaction was to freak out — it felt like those sort of events that only happen once or twice in a lifetime, those you already know are gonna be historical, those you don’t want to miss. Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, and De La Soul, performing together. It could be one of these ‘80’s Stars’ tours, only this one would be a good one. And then I realized. If they’re performing together, it is to celebrate the Wu-Tang’s ‘Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)’ 25th birthday, Public Enemy’s ‘It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back’ and De La Soul’s ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ 30th birthday… SO. OLD.

Considering that most of the tickets are already sold-out, the ‘Gods of Rap’ — literally — are proving that, like wine, good music only gets better with age.

Taking creativity outside music’s limits

But one would think that an epic tour through Europe is a big enough project? Well, the Wu-Tang shows, once again, that nothing is too big — or unusual — for them. Next step before entering hip-hop’s Pantheon? A movie, obviously. And with Method Man leading the way to Hollywood for the past 20 years, it only seems natural. It shouldn’t be a surprise anymore: cinema and hip-hop is a prolific love-story.

Here’s what you need to know about it. Inspired by events the Wu-Tang Clan experienced while growing up in the Staten Island Projects, the movie would be named “Angel of Dust”, would be directed by RZA himself while Ghostface Killah would take care of the script. Also — and maybe the best news from it all — the crew would provide the whole soundtrack. The pitch is a sort of suspense horror thriller, where a teenager makes his way through New-York City, fighting cops, drug-addicts, and a supernatural serial killer.

… So far it looks a bit random but if there’s one thing I learned from the Wu-Tang Clan is that they’re not ruled by chance and they’ve only come up with the best of the best, “la crème de la crème”.

A historical tour, a musical birthday to celebrate and a creative movie in the making: 2019, you already look so promising, here’s to hip-hop revival!
