Rory McNeice | Velocity Program Manager, MAP
  1. What is the purpose of your role as Velocity Program Manager:

As the Velocity Program Manager, I take 60+ early stage startup founders a year through our pre-accelerator, helping them find their feet in the entrepreneurial ecosystem and start to build the skills and connections they’ll need to succeed.

2. What do you love most about MAP or being in the startup space:

I love tricky problems, and each MAP or Velocity cohort is full of founders tackling challenges I’d never considered before — every new cohort is an exciting opportunity to get to know the founders and their businesses, and find ways to help them grow and succeed.

3. What are you looking forward to most in regards to this year’s MAP programs:

One of the best things about the programs is the cohort effect — I love seeing founders connect, share their stories and experiences, and learn from each other, and I’m looking forward to seeing those strong bonds develop.

4. If you could have a coffee chat with any person (dead or alive), who would it be and why:

Marcus Aurelius. I was a philosophy undergrad, and found the stoic philosophers interesting. I’d love to hear about the experiences of those historical philosophers, and hear their thoughts on life in the modern world.

5. What is one top tip you think a new founder/startup would benefit from knowing:

Humility is a form of self-reflection, and a strength. It’s easier to reach and surpass your limitations, if you’re honest with yourself about what your current limitations are.

6. If you could give a shoutout to someone from MAP who you appreciate or want to recognise, who would it be and why:

Simon Murphy, our Chief EIR. Cool, calm, and collected, and always there to give a startup or founder some great guidance and advice.
