❓ Questions and answers…

What’s your job position at MELD + what do you do for MELD?

I’m the Operation Director at MELD. My job is to make the company as efficient as possible. Whether that be aligning design work, or having the proper tech people to relay the info for marketing purposes — I make sure everyone has what they need to do their job properly

I create systems and workflows to make sure everything is easy, making sure we deliver products to the users and that people are aligned. I oversee our finances and expenditure and how we hire people. I’m the central point of contact for all of the management, as well as managing board of directors meetings where we discuss things like the progress of our MELD fiat banking license.

What did you do before working with MELD?

A couple of different things. I was a TikTok influencer! I made a variety of different types of productivity and personal finance videos. During the later stages, I pivoted towards crypto-related videos and tried to get a job in crypto. As for my work-life, I used to work in the finance department for a VC that invests in startups. — ASIF Ventures. I also worked in marketing at an events company in the UK. — Noble events limited

I really like the personal finance aspects of working and I think that’s why MELD is so attractive to me. Helping people gain control of their financial lives and working on tools and products that only centralized entities can use, but for the masses!

When did you first get involved in crypto?

At the end of 2020 was when crypto entered my life — I saw bitcoin working its way up and it began to be in the news everywhere I looked. I read about it a little during 2016–2018 but it didn’t really speak to me. But in 2020 I was more attentive, studying into it more, falling down the rabbit holes of DeFi and other layer 1’s that were emerging. By Christmas I was hooked — I was learning about different layer 1’s during that time, specifically Cardano and the ecosystem that was emerging on it.

At the time, while at university, I began spending more hours learning about crypto than my actual studies. It’s all so fascinating to me, especially the connection from a decentralized world to the centralized playing field. I think my favorite kind of crypto is RealFi, things that can tangibly impact the world and affect normal everyday people — It’s the connection from decentralization to centralization that’s the tricky part, and I love how MELD has been spearheading this since day one.

What do you like the most about crypto?

I like the communities, tech, decentralization, and transparency. I love how everything, for the most part, is open source and everyone is able to go into the code for themselves before using it. I find the engagement from the communities is great from this point of view, for they are the ones, most of the time, finding bugs and potential ways to refine the code. The crypto ecosystem has some of the smartest people working in it, and it’s only a matter of time until there are protocols that are so robust that nothing can stop them.

I really like being able to make something for a community and for a community, without a central powerhead at the top is very attractive to me.

Do you have any predictions on where crypto will be 5 years from now?

I’m not entirely sure where it’s going but I know where I want it to be! Hopefully, we start to see the implementation of direct payments in crypto. Where we can use crypto wallets, without a bank account, and make a payment in a supermarket, without any custodial system in place.

Yeah, there are some debit cards that exist out there, but they either transfer your crypto to whatever fiat currency is required before using it — or this has to be manually done. What I mean is, that I would love for supermarkets to eventually be accepting of cryptocurrencies such as BTC, ETH, and ADA. I think as time goes on and the market cap of some of the top crypto assets becomes more substantial more companies and countries will start taking BTC and ETH on their balance sheet.

I think so many more people will start working in crypto as time goes on. There always seem to be new startups with lots of investments looking for productive people with high initiative to help get their ideas to come into reality.

I’d like my parents and less educated folks to understand crypto 5 years from now! Maybe this will be forced into them if nations start to opt for things like CBDCs. (Central Bank Digital Currencies)

What do you like doing outside of crypto and MELD?

I like studying and reading more about personal finance. I have a passion for public speaking and actually performed a TEDx talk on personal finance, and also talked about Cardano and DeFi. I travel a lot and spend part of my time in the Netherlands and part-time in the UK. I travel around Europe quite a lot — one of the perks of working remotely!

MELD — Be Your Own Bank

We think it’s essential for everyone to gain control of their financial lives and have equal access to financial instruments used by professionals, not just centralized institutions, governments, or the 1%. We want to provide financial freedom and control to the masses, including the unbanked.

We have a long-term goal to enable the $15 trillion that is currently locked out of the global economy, including 2 billion individuals worldwide that are either underbanked or have no access to banking services whatsoever, access to these tools. These are the people that are paying the highest fees, getting the worst customer service, and they are the ones that are having the most problems.

Our vision is to create an ecosystem that empowers individuals to regain financial control by providing them with the tools and services they need to manage their money on their terms. Whether that be creating a collateralized debt position (CDP) with cryptocurrency, earning an interest return for lending fiat to borrowers, or even participating in reward incentive programs, we strive to provide our users with the functions they need to manage their own financial lives.
