America’s most disruptive health insurer picks Kiwi company Melon Health for diabetes prevention
Oscar Health insurance, the most disruptive player in the US health insurance market has selected Wellington company Melon Health to deliver a Diabetes Prevention Program to its San Francisco members.
This comes off the back of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) the US agency responsible for the national Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), recently approving Melon as a national program provider and one of few companies delivering the program online.
Siobhan Bulfin, founder and CEO of Melon, said becoming an approved provider has opened up a whole new market for Melon in the US. “Within two weeks of receiving approval, we signed a new customer. And a pretty awesome one at that”.

The initial deal was signed in June and starts with 900 Oscar members. The program is expected to go live in August, with expansion likely as Oscar grows its presence on the west coast where Melon is based.
