In the previous article, we discussed what is Virtual Reality (VR), what is its potential and why it is finally taking off. In this article we are going to discuss how VR is going to change the way we consume media and how we at Melzo are trying our best to make it accessible to the masses & make it fun!

If we look at the timeline of history of communication mediums, each subsequent medium became more engaging & interactive than the medium that prevailed before. From Print medium to Photos and Cinema, to Television and Arcade games, to Internet Multimedia i.e. from being able to just read, to watch, to hear and now do it on-demand too. Now VR is taking information sharing and media consumption to another level by making it immersive & interactive.

VR is the technology of the future. It is taking us from 2D images, games, screens and experiences, to virtual environments where viewer can interact and engage with virtual entities & content.

Up until VR became mainstream with the arrival of consumer VR Headsets, if one needed to explore a tourist destination, all they could do was see 2D images and videos & read reviews or blogs. VR removes this barrier by creating virtual version of the location (e.g., Paris Tour)where users can move around and explore, making them feel as if they are at the desired location, from the comfort of their home. In VR gaming, players can interact with virtual objects by shooting, kicking, dragging, etc.

Gone are the days when generating a virtual environment required programming in Unity or Unreal game engines. Using Melzo anyone, including the non tech savvy, can create and share virtual reality content by few drag-and-drops. Our future plans also includes providing APIs and development toolkit for tech savvy users to fine tune our platform according to their requirements. Making virtual reality reach masses is the core design principle of Melzo.

Unlike other platforms, Melzo is web based. Using power and reach of World Wide Web, Melzo can deliver VR content across large variety of devices and platforms i.e. Melzo can be accessed on Windows, Android, iOS, macOS, Linux via standard browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge. Thus removing the requirement of specific platform or vendor based development. It does not requires more than a click to start consuming awesome immersive content. No app installation of any kind is required.

Targeting masses brings a lot of technological challenges at the forefront. Melzo needs to run a large variety of devices of different size and computing power, on different types of Internet connection from fast, stable to slow and unstable.

We follow continuous development pattern of Planning, Designing, Development & Testing to provide our users best possible experience. Each and every feature is tested on all platforms and browsers before it makes its way to Melzo. Not only that, Melzo is optimised ground up for fast delivery using adaptive & progressive experience delivery. Optimised images and videos and other assets are loaded depending on devices and its screen resolution using our in-house algorithms forming the basis of our adaptive assets delivery. Assets are loaded progressively, on-demand depending on current virtual scene making optimal use of your bandwidth. We make extensive use of CDN (Content Delivery Network) from around the globe so users don’t have to see painful loading bars for even more painfully long seconds. These and many other patent pending optimisations is how we are trying to make immersive media more easily and widely accessible.

We at Melzo continuously strive to make a platform that will take immersive content creation to the masses in an optimised format that everyone can easily consume as well. There is a dearth of community created content, compared to advertising/marketing content, in the immersive medium for daily consumption of enthusiasts and early adopters, and Melzo can change that.
