A dummy’s guide to getting the best out of every communication. Or ‘how to create change together.’ In this post, I share some thoughts on leveraging the dynamics of the individual and community to create an organization or system-level change. These are simple ideas to help you be heard because I want to see you succeed.

Assumptions

  1. You have an idea you want people to consider.
  2. You are willing to champion the idea.

Brevity IS Genius.

In the trenches of the community, things move fast. There is a sense of agility and the energy is intoxicating. However, when we get out of the trenches to talk strategy it’s important to zoom out and avoid fluff. If in doubt, cut it out.

This was a lesson shared with me by Jeremy Firster. At the top, there is an emphasis on good communication which means structured, clear, and to the point. I like the ideas in the ‘Good Strategy, Bad Strategy’ book review that was shared internally. Let’s take a look…

  1. A good strategy identifies one or two issues.
  2. A diagnosis to explain the nature of the challenge.
  3. An approach to cope or overcome the obstacles.
  4. A set of actions to make it happen.
