What we tend to overlook when green is absent

Idaho winter landscape February from author’s collection

It’s easy for most of us to overlook the beauty of a frigid landscape. We tend to be conditioned to believe that beauty lies in fields of green, in blooming flowers and the tall grasses. In the American Rocky Mountains of Idaho, winter takes on a beauty all its own in a mix of light, snow, sky and clouds.

Driving from Boise, Idaho — elevation of 2730 feet to Sun Valley, Idaho — 6500 feet in mid-winter when the mountain temperatures along Route 20 often dip to -12 encompasses an impressive range of vistas.
