Great Lines in Dressrosa Arc
Dressrosa means “pink dress” or “rose dress” (“rosa” means “pink” and “rose” in many Latin languages)
Dressrosa is one of the biggest arcs in One Piece. I’ve got a chance to experience this arc again by watching new reactors on YouTube. Little did I know, there are a bunch of lines from the characters and they become one of my favorites upon hearing them again after almost 10 years since I first read it in the manga. Here are some of the best lines and my thoughts about it.
Corazon & Law
You… stabbed me… that day but…it didn’t hurt at all! I know you were the one who was in pain! You poor thing… Law!
I’m gonna stay alive a little bit more… because if I die now… the spell I cast on you will be broken instantly… and your voice and noise that you make will be heard throughout the island.
All of these lines… are the testaments of how much love Corazon has for Law. Realizing the deep emotional wound Law has and shedding tears for him saves Law from succumbing to darkness. Now, Law is free. He fought to stay alive so that Law could mourn peacefully. Truly a fitting character that represents a Corazon (heart). And of course, the best line from Corazon is:
I’m going to die with a smile. Because… if you ever think of me someday, I want you to remember me smiling.
Don Sai to Baby 5
Baby 5: “Why… I just tried to help you. By killing myself, I wanted to become a person who is needed by someone!”
Don Sai: “You have been living in a world where nobody has ever told you that you’re getting it all wrong?”
This girl has been in a birdcage since she was taken captive by the Doflamingo family. She didn’t get to learn that what she’s done is wrong and the scariest thing about it… is that she didn’t even know. These people, the Doflamingo family built a construct of beliefs that distorted this poor girl’s perspective for years.
Franky against Senor Pink
Franky: That's pathetic… What are you thinking of, crying? Brother. If we see each other again someday somewhere, let’s have a drink. And tell me about the woman named Russian.
Sometimes… men connect with fists, and that’s what happened. There is nothing more hard-boiled than these two men right here.
And btw, they did share that drink.
Luffy to Doflamingo
You always try to strangle everything within your hand and try to manipulate everybody! It makes me feel like I’m suffocating!
Have you ever felt choked up because of the restraint somebody put on you? Maybe your spouse, your family, or rules that are too restricting. As Luffy said, it is indeed suffocating.
Fujitora to Akainu
Akainu: “Your selfish action dishonored the face of justice!”
Fujitora: “If you don’t want it to be dishonored, keep it close to you all the time! If we lose credibility just by admitting fault, we didn’t have any at the first place!”
It sent a shiver down my spine. It reminds me that if you want to be honored, you have to keep honor close to you all the time. Be an honorable person. There’s no shame in admitting fault, it doesn’t taint your honor. On the contrary, it proves you don’t lose your honor completely.
Fujitora to Luffy
What do you look like? I wish I hadn’t blinded myself. I want to see your face. I bet you look kind.
For someone to say that he regretted that he blinded himself, demonstrates how Luffy can appeal to everybody on such a deep level.
