Caring for Children Who Were Abandoned by the World

It appears to be an idyllic holiday moment: two children gaze at a Christmas tree. In fact, the children are Jewish, and the photograph helped save their lives during the Holocaust. In this digital program, we remember those who gave the greatest gift of all: refuge in a time of need. You will hear several stories: In one, a Muslim family, under the cover of darkness, finds shelter for a fleeing Jewish family. In another, after the war, a German Jewish refugee creates a sanctuary for dozens of children after losing most of her own family in the Holocaust.
