MEMPHIS, Tenn. — June 12, 2018 — On Saturday, June 16, the Memphis River Parks Partnership and Wolf River Conservancy will co-host People’s Day on the River — a family-friendly event that combines community service and festival activities at the Mud Island River Park.

“Memphis comes from the river. Without it, we wouldn’t be here. But there are too few opportunities for Memphians to be on the water,” said Carol Coletta, President and CEO of Memphis River Parks Partnership. “People’s Day on the river is a joint effort between Wolf River Conservancy and Memphis River Parks to give more families a chance to get on the water and have a good time doing it.”

Starting at 9 a.m., the Wolf River Conservancy and Doxicom Global will team up for a volunteer cleanup at the Wolf River Harbor on the north end of Mud Island. Volunteers will begin at Confluence Park while volunteer paddlers from the Wolf River Conservancy, Bluff City Canoe Club and others will launch into the harbor at the public access point under the AC Willis bridge and work their way north. Land-based volunteers will clean up the banks of the harbor.

From noon to 4 p.m., People’s Day on the River will continue in the grove at Mud Island River Park, including:

· Kayak/canoe demonstrations

· Discounted kayak rentals

· Guided paddles around the harbor

· Riverfront story time

· Food, beverages, crafts, lawn games and more

“We’re excited to partner with the Memphis River Parks Partnership and Doxicom Global to create an incredible opportunity for Memphians to connect with the Mississippi River,” said Keith Cole, executive director of the Wolf River Conservancy. “Together, we’ll be able to beautify our community and follow up with a festival to enjoy the Memphis Riverfront. It doesn’t get much better than that.”

All volunteers will receive complimentary food and beverages during People’s Day on the River. The event is open to the public and Monorail access to Mud Island River Park will be free all day.
