Focused How Might Design… Statements

When looking my second semester and the experiences I might design, I have decided to take a two level approach. These two levels differ in how I am treating the statements within those levels.

Level 0

All statements should be considered for every experience

Level 1

One should pick and choose what statements to consider for each experience

I have decided to do this because I believe that in order for an experience to be effectively integrated into an intimate relationship while simultaneously exploring how humans and artificial agents can be in conversational symbiosis, a number of considerations are mandatory while others are note.

Below, you will be able to find the statements I am considering today.

Level 0 Statements

  • How might design ethically manage a couple’s data?
  • How might design effectively communicate the boundaries and capabilities of an artificial agent?
  • How might design effectively communicate within the context of an intimate relationship?
  • How might design integrate models of communication?
  • How might design apply the 4MAT system?
  • How might design allow for a diversity of experiences?
  • How might design alter practices beyond a single interaction?
  • How might design support the evolution of one’s relationship with the artificial over time?

Level 1 Statements

On Conversation

  • How might design lead to greater understanding of nonverbal communication?
  • How might design deescalate situations? Decrease negative affect reciprocity?
  • How might design monitor the sentiment of a conversation?
  • How might design start a needed conversation?
  • How might design share frameworks and theory to intimate couples?

On Intimate Relationships

  • How might design support greater self disclosure between partners?
  • How might design support greater recollection between partners?
  • How might design support greater appreciation of one’s partner?
  • How might design support greater acceptance of one’s partner?
  • How might design allow for greater understanding of a partner’s view?
  • How might design provide a place of reflection for partners and couples?
  • How might design reframe a partner’s thinking about their relationship?
  • How might design encourage more reasonable expectations of a relationship?
  • How might design gracefully integrate artificial agents into experiences that support romantic relationships?
  • How might design ease the integration of those experiences into one’s relationship?
  • How might design play with the stigma of getting help with one’s relationship?
  • How might design increase our perceived relational value?
