Google Duplex

Utilizes Google Voice Search and WaveNet. Targeting very specific tasks (creating a haircut appointment). Constrained to closed domains, made an explicit decision to extensively understand that domain. When too complex, humans became involved.

Interesting because of both the public reaction to Duplex and the very specific focus on closed domains.

Google Assistant and Alexa

Both configure functionality as skills. Non Amazon and Google employees have the ability to create such skills.

Your Boss

“Your Boss is a voice chat app for freelancers, creators, and founders. We connect peers in one-on-one phone calls at random times. Pick up the phone. Talk about your work. Be each other’s boss.” Users can get a a different perspective or motivation from another individual active in a creative industry.

Interesting in its use of the peer economy, but for motivation.

Lemonade Insurance

When messaging or going through parts of their insurance application, users see a real individual’s avatar image. Attempt to create the illusion of interacting in a more personal way.

Quick, Draw

A Google A.I. experiment users help teach a neural network by adding their own drawings to the “world’s largest doodling data set.”

Similar to ReCaptcha in that users are used to create datasets, but adds a gamification aspect.

Google Home

If a query/request is too complicated for a Google Home, can send that query/request to a phone. Similar to other AI assistants, utilizes sound effects to bring more personality to the agent.

Project Oasis

Creates an alternate isolated ecosystem that allows a user to see the weather in different places all over the world.

Interesting, due to the creation of this alternate world, that users can test different scenarios.

Necrobarista

“Necrobarista is a cinematic visual novel set in a magical Melbourne cafe where the dead are granted one last night to mingle with the living.”

Users collect keywords by clicking on them as they appear in each sentences. Users can only collect a limited number, forcing users to make decisions on what to save and what not to save. A user’s collection dictates the direction of the story,

Interesting, in that users are given the power to determine the direction of the conversation. Users are able to understand that they can only focus on certain aspects of the storyline.
