Most of the newspaper introduces Paywall to make more money by charging users to make sure they generate more money because ads pay really low. In 2018, for the very first time in history, the ad spends on digital advertising exceeds the ad-spend on Print media. Newspaper sites like Washington Post, New York Times and other big newspaper publishing sites started pop-up paywalls to let readers pay for the reading articles.

Most of these Paywall offering sites give you the opportunity to read 5 articles every month for free. If you are reading the New York Times then they will give you an opportunity for reading five articles for free. BusinessInsider has a similar program with the name BusinessInsider Prime. Different Newspaper sites have different rates for a paywall.

Some newspaper sites use an Adwalls to let people turn-off the ad-blocker when they are using that site in Question.

In your chrome browser, click on the Three vertical points, like the image below,
