Perimenopause marks a significant transitional phase in a woman’s life, characterized by hormonal shifts and various physical and emotional changes. For those who identify as neurodivergent, navigating perimenopause can present unique challenges and considerations. Understanding how neurodivergence intersects with perimenopause is crucial for developing tailored self-care strategies that promote well-being and resilience during this transformative journey.

Understanding Perimenopause and Neurodivergence

Perimenopause typically begins in a woman’s 40s but can start earlier for some individuals. It is characterized by fluctuating hormone levels, which can lead to symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, sleep disturbances, and cognitive changes (there are a lot more symptoms). Meanwhile, neurodivergence encompasses a range of neurological differences, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, and others.
