Left-handed veteran reliever Craig Breslow was originally named to Team Israel’s 28-man WBC roster last month, but he will now not play for the team. Breslow — who would’ve likely served as the team’s closer — has decided that he will stay in Minnesota Twins’ camp, instead trying to fight for a spot in their major-league bullpen.

According to TwinsDaily.com, Breslow is expected to be a front-runner to win a bullpen spot, along with Brandon Kintzler, Ryan Pressly, Matt Belisle, JT Chargois, Taylor Rogers, and Justin Haley. The young Twins’ roster will need a veteran arm like Breslow to help them rebuild their team.

Breslow had been working on a new throwing angle in order to get back to the big leagues. He made 15 appearances for the Miami Marlins last season, accumulating a 4.50 ERA in 14 innings of work.

Replacing Breslow, Zack Thornton will slide into Team Israel’s rotation. The New York Mets’ prospect threw 61 and 2/3 innnings out of the Triple-A Las Vegas pen last season, recording a 4–4 record, along with a 3.94 ERA.
