Over 5.8 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, according to the CDC.

What is Alzheimer’s Disease?

Alzheimer’s disease is dementia that causes memory, thinking, and behavior struggles. Symptoms develop gradually and worsen over time, becoming severe enough to affect day-to-day activities. It accounts for 60–70% of all dementia cases.

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive, incurable illness that slowly robs people of their mental capacity.
It affects people of all ages, although it is most prevalent among those over 65.

The average life expectancy after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s reads 8–10 years; it can range between 1–25+ depending on how long you live before developing symptoms and what age they occur at first occurrence (for instance, younger individuals seem to have shorter survival rates).

Death often occurs because of either pneumonia or malnutrition — though sometimes, general body wasting leads to death too.
