When I cast my mind back to the 1990s, I can distinctly remember what a powerful influence Daniel Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence had on my life. Back then, I identified as a perfectly rational being who prized reason and logic above all and believed that these were the only tools needed for success, growth, and happiness. But Goleman’s concepts showed me a whole new way of thinking. His work inspired me to break free from my rigid rationality and allow space for my emotions — not to numb them but to get to know and welcome them.

This shift was challenging. I had to face emotional cycles and habits I had turned a blind eye to for years. But slowly, I started to see profound changes in my relationships, how I made decisions, and how I viewed myself. This journey only elevated my awareness of my emotional Intelligence. I’m still a work in progress, but that helped shape, guide, and direct me to be more compassionate, curious, and a whole person. It is a lifelong process, and no matter what, I will continue to strive to be actively engaged and grow through my learning.
