Events across the UK

Creative Mornings. A monthly creative talks series across the UK held every last Friday of the month. With a strong global creative and tech community, this is a must do.

Death Cafe. Sounds scary but this tea and cake meet up hosts a normalised conversation about death. Their aim is to increase community and to help people make the most of their lives.

School of Strut. A dance studio across the UK that hosts body positive dance classes. (Women only). Their classes promote self-love and sisterhood.

5 Rhythms. A UK wide dance class that explore 5 different rhythms and ways of dancing. This ignites creativity, connection, and community. Great for anyone looking to shake off the cobwebs.

Events in London

Sanctus x Tribe Community Open Run. We’ve teamed up with Tribe to host an all levels welcome after work run. Money raised goes towards Tribes foundation to help fight human trafficking.

MoreYoga’s MHAW series. Three different events exploring the relationship between the body and the mind.

Boxpark Talks: Mental Health Awareness Week. A panel with musicians, business leaders and self care coaches.

Campfire’s Wellness Week. A series of events that cater to every walk of life. Includes a lot of free food.

Things to do and places to go.

Fabrications Workshops. There’s a strong link between making and positive mental health. This place offers knitting, clothes making and craft classes.

Off The Record. A Bristol-based panel to discuss the modern issues around body image, and how we feel about our bodies.

Screen-Free Hobbies. The Good Trade gives us a list of new hobbies we can form that don’t need screens.

Life Drawing. A simple classic that welcomes all levels. A chance to get to know a new skill, and zone out.

Anorexics and Bulimics Anonymous. ABA uses the Twelve-Step PrSpend a day walking through the breathtaking grounds of the Sharpham Estate in Devon with Brigit-Anna McNeill. Learning to identify, pick safely and prepare, seasonal wild foods. Re-connect to nature through plants and learn to see with new eyes as you taste, touch and begin to understand the edible and medicinal plants that are all around you.ogram adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to address the mental, emotional, and spiritual components of the disorders of anorexia and bulimia.

Positive Intelligence. Positive Intelligence is the science and practice of developing mastery over your own mind so you can reach your full potential for both happiness and success. A good way to explore your potential.

Forage and Feast. Spend a day walking through the breathtaking grounds of the Sharpham Estate in Devon learning to identify, pick safely and prepare, seasonal wild foods.

Mindful In Nature Retreat. A Sharpham Trust project, supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, that is specifically designed to support mental health recovery, resilience and well-being for people aged 18+ living locally, combining mindfulness and nature connection.

Books to read

FAT Is a Feminist Issue by Susie Orbach. When it was first published, Fat Is A Feminist Issue became an instant classic and it is as relevant today as it was then. With an increasingly dominant diet industry, costing the consumer millions of pounds each year, Susie Orbach’s best-selling classic is as important as ever in helping women to love their own body and face the demands of 21st-century living with confidence.

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown. Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. This book helps us find the gifts of our ‘imperfections’.

The Invisible Man: A Self-help Guide for Men With Eating Disorders, Compulsive Exercise and Bigorexia by John F. Morgan. Increasingly boys and men are suffering from eating disorders and related body image problems. Some have full-blown conditions such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia, binge eating, compulsive exercising or bigorexia. Others are distressed by slightly lesser degrees of disordered eating or over-exercise and seek ways of overcoming their problems.

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life By Jen Sincero. This is a classic self-help book that is loved by millions, getting to the core of what holds us back.

The Artists Way: A Course in Discovering and Recovering Your Creative Self by Julia Cameron. The Artist’s Way provides a twelve-week course that guides you through the process of recovering your creative self. It aims to dispel the ‘I’m not talented enough’ conditioning that holds many people back and helps you to unleash your own inner artist. Its step-by-step approach enables you to transform your life, overcome any artistic blocks you may suffer from, including limiting beliefs, fear, sabotage, jealousy and guilt, and replace them with self-confidence and productivity.
