It’s Time To Fly!

“Fly, open up the part of you that wants to hide away.” – Hilary Duff

As A Kid…

When I was a kid, I never knew about a lot of things that I know now at this age (19). When you are a kid, you are too busy having fun and being a kid but never know the things that are truly important: just as important as physical health: mental health. But also from time to time, some of us grew up with Lizzie McGuire and attended her concerts. We are too busy dancing in our rooms singing along to her songs using our hair brush that we don’t realize how hard it truly is to “open up the part of you that wants to hide away” like one of her lyrics in the chorus of “Fly”.

“Forget about the reasons why you can’t in life, and start to try. Cuz it’s your time… time to fly.”

Role Model

Hilary Duff has been a huge role model to me since I was just a little kid. I shared this with my best friend who we’ve been best friends (but much more, like family, we like to say “long lost sisters”) for almost 15 years this September. Me and Courtney have watched every episode and movie that Hilary ever released. We’ve been the fans like any others who dance in our rooms either lip singing or real singing with our voices using our hairbrush as a microphone. We basically grew up with her like the rest of her fans. We both have our fave songs on all her albums. We went to see “The Perfect Man” together which is still a classic yet one of my faves still to this day.

“Trust yourself, and don’t give up. You know you better than anyone else” – Hilary Duff

In the past few years, I’ve listened to her song “Fly” and “Someone”s Watching Over Me” and they sound quite different. They sound the same just the lyrics are more understandable yet more able to see what they mean. “Open up the part of you that wants to hide away” is a lyric that comes to mind. This lyric makes me think back as a kid liking this song, not really knowing how hard it truly is to open up the person who we honestly want to be. Thinking about all this, knowing now that it’s way harder than I thought as a kid to accomplish something like this. Because of all the constant judgments from the haters which makes it that hard to be that “girl”. Because in the end, we end up keeping her inside of us, for fear of getting hurt for what others would say if we do let her out. “Find a dream you can follow

“Reach for something, when there’s nothing left”

At this age now, we have grown up a lot since then and have gone through a lot together but still have remained friends no matter what life gave us. And a lot of times, we like to listen to a few songs like Fly, Someone’s Watching Over Me, Sweet Sixteen, Workin It Out, What Dreams Are Made Of and many others. Through all that we’ve been through as friends in almost 15 years and how we connected through Hilary Duff, we have a lot to be grateful for and will never let go of that something special we have the two of us.
