Mentally Healthy Conversations is all about how we can have more effective conversations about our mental wellbeing. These conversations are more likely to result in people receiving support, rather than stigma.

The intended audience includes individuals with mental wellbeing challenges – who would like to get support from others, by talking about their wellbeing in a more effective way.

It also includes those who might do the listening – bosses, tutors, teachers, friends, colleagues and fellow students.

Using the method first promoted by Jonathan Phelan through Evenhood, we support an approach to mental health conversations which focuses on talking about the things that make it harder for us to manage our wellbeing (our Triggers), the circumstances in which we can better manage our wellbeing (our Resilient Resources) and our talents & abilities.

This logical and factual approach leads to better outcomes than conversations which focus on the complexities of a medical condition that the listener might struggle to understand and the emotional impact of that condition on our daily lives.

Giving the listener a clear statement of our Triggers and Resilient Resources gives them a better idea of what they can do to support us.
