Making a decision about the correct college is a tough one and is a crucial step in your career. The question then arises: how to choose a college from a multitude of different options? There are various factors one should keep in mind while opting for a college.

Infrastructure: This is an important factor while choosing a college. Infrastructure does not only mean a good looking building. It includes lecture halls, workshops, laboratories, research facilities etc. Because you need all these things in your four years of engineering. So keep it your first preference while choosing a college.

Faculty: After having a sufficient infrastructure it is the faculty that makes it useful, otherwise it will be a school without a teacher. Always have a look at the college faculty which includes professors, teaching experience, visiting professors etc.

Facilities: This includes library, internet, intranet, hostels, seminar halls, dispensary, student clubs, gym etc. Access to such facilities is also important and do keep that in mind.

Placements: This is an important deciding factor for it is necessary to get placed in a good job. Have a look at the placement records of the college, branch wise, as well as industry wise.

Extra curricular activities: “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. This stands true because you have to strike a balance between your studies and your extracurriculars so as to develop an all-rounder persona. So have a look at the activities in the college like students clubs, societies, college fests, guest lectures, seminars and workshops, industrial training, social activities etc.

Location: Proximity to industrial or software hubs is also useful at times for industrial training and placements.

So now the question that arises is that how you can get so much of information about each and every college. Here are some simple tips for you:

1.Look at the college web site

2.Consult your seniors

3.Visit the college personally, if possible

4.Take the help of a counsellor or mentor
