Mentimeter’s four tips towards truly successful events

At Mentimeter we work hard to give people a way to end boring meetings and stiff events. Mentimeter is used at some of the most prestigious events in Europe and in the US, by people who want to do just this.

In some cases we’ve also had the opportunity to work together with the creators of these events, our latest cooperation is with Le Web in Paris, Europe’s most established tech conference according to The Wall Street Journal. One great thing with these cooperations is that they constantly give us great insights on what makes an event stand out from the crowd and become a huge success.

From our experiences with these cooperations we’ve put together four steps to take your event to the next level:

  1. Interact with participants throughout the entire event
  2. Help speakers with examples of how to interact
  3. Pay attention to the small meetings
  4. Focus on fun

Interact with participants throughout the entire event

Interaction increase learning, that has been well proven. But to make it happen and have participants leave your conference enlightened, you need to keep interacting continuously throughout the event.

We see the best effect if interaction takes place every 30 minutes, or twice per speech. Avoid the common mistake of putting all interaction in one basket, like at the beginning or end of the event.

Help speakers with examples of how to interact

Most speakers are more than happy to get input on how they can engage with their audience and get their message through. By helping them with examples on how to interact, you also make sure to keep up the conversation throughout your entire event and keep the participants engaged.

Don’t forget about the small meetings

The classic way of using interaction is by voting on a certain question when a speaker is in front of 200+ people, mostly because the larger the audience the harder it is to create a bond with them as a speaker.

What we often forget about though, is that there’s a lack of engagement in smaller gatherings as well. Group engagement with between 10–20 people is often much more effective since more complex models can be used and questions can arise and be answered / prioritised during the session.

Companies like Accenture, HP, Microsoft and EY use Mentimeter in group meetings and workshops. Having people involved in an easy and unbiased way is crucial to achieve innovative and engaging discussions.

Focus on fun

It all comes down to this, attending events must be fun. Interacting with participants and making them feel involved is a great way to achieve this, and with Mentimeter it’s effortless.

Asking you audience in a word cloud where they are from or what music should be played later is a fun way to get peoples attention and make them laugh and learn new things about each other.
