Writing a code directly? Developing by being deprived of sleep? Given only two days’ time limit from idea to product creation?

GDG is planning to accomplish a gargantuan task!

On November 17, 2018, the Shanghai GDG (Google Developer Community)hosted a two-day Google Design Sprint Hackathon event.

As one of the series for DevFest 2018 Shanghai, the Design Sprint Hackathon has attracted 120 participants from all over the country. Participating members included creative students, developers, products, designers and creative practitioners.

Hackathon (Hacking Marathon) must have been heard by everyone, but the combination of Google Design Sprint (Google Design Sprint)and Hackathon brings an unprecedented experience to its participants — Hackathon is considered a developer’s carnival, and Design Sprint is a powerful tool for quickly solving and verifying creative problems. The combination of these two brings a fierce spark.

With the invitation of GDG, Merculet also worked together to create something.

Merculet Mobile Main Developer, the creator of RxJava 2.X Combatby Shen Zhe was one of the judges of this Hackathon. Mr. Shen has more than 8 years of experience in mobile development and many years of hands-on experience in server development. He was responsible for the mobile Shanghai team of “JD Home Arrival,” oversaw the back-end team of JD Travel and participated in the development of the Special Tonight Hotel App, Decarta Map SDK and the Guevara App.

The most impressive work of Mr. Shen Zhe was his second-class work ai’Qin (English translation: Therem{ai}n).

It’s an AI-enhanced instrument that not only responds to the user, but also accompanies and inspires to achieve more. The team hoped to convey the role of artificial intelligence in responding, companioning and assisting inspiration in our everyday lives as well as in our imaginative and creative processes.

The final product ai’Qin was a musical instrument that the performer can play with simple hand motions and gestures. Each time when the performance was completed, the AI-based instrument will automatically generate a composition based on the player’s input and release a new melody, which is like an ensemble partner. The same companionship also inspires the player to create.

Mr. Shen Zhe noted, “Unlike previous Hackathons, IT introduced Design Sprint for product design. Most of the GDG Hackathons participates were born after the 1990s, and I was surprised that 80% of the teams there have used TensorFlow-related technologies. It can be seen that AI-related technologies are gaining increasingly more attention and are becoming more and more popular.

During the Hackathon, many players played hard. There were about 20 players who wrote code all night, and even one player has only slept for 1.5 hours in 2 days, which also reflects the spirit of Hackathon.”

As a pre-order event of DevFest Shanghai on November 25th, this Hackathon was the perfect start to the GDG Shanghai Developer Festival (DevFest) series. Xiao Bian couldn’t help but tell everyone about it. The theme talk session on November 25 was focused on TensorFlow, AI technologies, Google Cloud and other technical research topics, and have invited prodigious Google experts and thinktanks from all walks of life to discuss technologies and innovations with you. Among them, there was another technical bull, our Chief Architect of Merculet, Wu Xiangbin, who was invited and shared with guests his speech! Xiaobian has already used his ticket and prepared to see his style. If you haven’t attended already, make sure to see us next time (poke here).
