Abington Senior High School’s New Age Facilities.
Abington, PA — When nearly 2,000 students of Abington Senior High School in Abington PA return in the fall to South Campus, they will have the opportunity to take advantage of more than just the Stephen A. Schwarzman Center for Science and Technology, part of a $104 million renovation project at the Senior High School.
Students will also pass by the Hall of Fame named for Track and Field championship coach Jack Armstrong. They will be utilizing the Athletic Center and Auxillery Gymnasium dedicated to former students and Track and Field athletes Billy Wilson and Bobby Bryant, who competed for Abington.
The current senior high school building was constructed in 1956. The original Abington Township High School was located at 1801 Susquehanna Road was built in 1888 and still stands today.
Abington adopted the Galloping Ghosts as a mascot after a Harold “Red” Grange visit in 1931. Grange was a halfback for Chicago Bears and New York Yankees and played from 1925–1934 and was the player to ever play in the NFL and college football at the same time.
Abington Senior High School was previously recognized as a Blue Ribbon High School in 1998–1999.
Together with the new Science and Technology Center, students will be able to enjoy the new athletic facilities which are all part of the total renovations to Abington Senior High School over the last several years.
