This day in Christian history: Bathilde — from slave to Queen of France

The story of Balthild of Chelles has been passed down through centuries, a powerful testament to the strength and resilience of women throughout history. Born into slavery in the early 7th century, Balthild rose to become one of the most influential figures in France during her lifetime. According to tradition, Bathilde died on January 30, 680. This is also her Saint’s feast day.
